To suffer from acne? This affliction can be a rather tumultuous one if you dont seek to proper treatment. The way we look, as we all know, has a huge effect on our confidence, or lack there of. So how does your complexion look? You are certainly not alone can happen to have acne, but it isnt the end of the world by any means either. Its time to stand up straight and tall, and take control of your life. With the numerous resources at our beck and call, theres absolutely no reason why we cant push to be acne free. While proper skin care and reliable treatments are essential in eradicating blemishes, a great many individuals overlook the other things. Its not just about whats on an outside ladies and gentlemen. We have to consider what goes on inside us as well. What were talking about here are acne diets. What are you eating?

You may not even be familiar with the subject of acne diets, it isnt talked about too much. This pertains to what you consume and how it affects your skin. I remember couple years ago sitting in the doctors office in with my lovely wife is there because she was heading back pain. I had really chapped lips at the time and asked her if she had any Chapstick in her purse. This caught the doctors attention when she looked at me and said, You know, the condition of your lips actually relates to your diet. Huh? She told me that eating the right nutrients and drinking the right fluids on a regular basis would fully heal my left and and keep them from becoming chapped. This astounded me.

However, since then I have started to heat and more healthy they can guess what… I rarely have chapped lips anymore. Its bizarre how some things work. I guess those doctors to actually know what theyre talking about. Anyhow, this premise also applies to our skin. Did you know that the food you eat excretes back through your pores? Sounds weird doesnt? Well, certain substances from the foods do actually make their way out of our pores. This gives whole new meaning to the phrase, you are what you eat. This is precisely why acne diets are so vitally important for some individuals. Foods high in fat and grease have been proven to cause blemishes. Im talking about fast foods, specifically.

When it comes to acne diets, foods that are great for your skin include, fruits and vegetables, organic products, non-processed items, and of course water, drink lots of water. I highly recommend that you give acne diets a chance if blemishes are haunting you. You should definitely improve your complexion if you give it a fair shot. For more information on acne diets, jump on the Internet where theres more information than you can handle.br
The latest research has shown that stress not only affects your weight and heart but stress can do a number on your skin, too! Thats right. Stress can actually cause rashes, acne and many other blemishes as well.

When you feel stress, your body level of cortisol (stress hormone) rises, this in turn can raise your blood sugar. Higher blood sugar levels are, in turn, correlated with increased skin aging. It is believed that, the next step leads to sugar molecules attacking your skins collagen and elastin. Acne and other skin blemishes result from high blood sugar levels. Of course, your levels of epinephrine soar when youre in stressful situations. That particular hormone is associated with decreased blood flow to the skin, which can make your complexion appear dull and give you dark circles under the eyes. Also, the skin barrier is compromised due to stress and in turn leads to decreased protection from harmful outside irritants which help hold moisture in your skin. This can eventually lead to allergic reactions, rashes, acne and other blemishes.

What Can Be Done?

In graduate school we often discussed ways in which to decrease stress. Many of the answers that came out of our class have stuck with me and perhaps they can be of assistance to you to:

Get plenty of sleep. The average adult should get between seven and eight hours of sleep a night.

Eat a well balanced diet. Try to incorporate all of the important nutrients and vitamins into you schedule. Perhaps the best plan is to eat light periodic meals, every two to three hours is a good start. You may also consider going on a low fat diet.

Pray/Meditate. Take care of yourself spiritually. Do the things that you need to in order to nurture the whole self.

Exercise. A good thirty minute brisk walk will do it. Remember not to think about stressful events while you are exercising otherwise this will defeat the purpose. It is also important to remember to burn fat while exercising.

In closing, let me remind you that you are the only one in control of your stress levels. Sure, there are many external forces vying for you time and talents but ultimately only one person can choose to deal with the pressures of life in a healthy manner. That is you. My hope is that you feel less stress as a result of reading this blog not more, hope it worked. Good Luck.br
br
Derived from the Greek word p??ntothen, meaning from all quarters, this B Vitamin is indeed a do everything, be everywhere nutrient. It is part of the chemical makeup of Coenzyme A. It is also known in other forms – Calcium Pantothenate and Panthenol.

It has become increasingly popular as a nutritional supplement, widely used for its abilities to boost energy, increase athletic performance, alleviate arthritis, restore color and luster to hair and, in general, rejuvenate. Deficiencies in humans can result in abdominal distress, vomiting, cramps, burning pain in the heels, burning feet syndrome, fatigue, insomnia. Signs of reduced immunity to some infectious agents have also been noted in pantothenate deficiency.

Some scientists believe Vitamin B5 can also prevent aging. Tests prove that getting an adequate amount of vitamin B5 into the body can stop the growth of wrinkles. For teenagers, Vitamin B5 can help STOP serious oil gland production, which means no acne.

The below extract is from research performed by Lit-Hung Leung, M.D, where Vitamin B5 was used to treat acne.

One hundred patients of Chinese descent were included in the study, 45 males and 55 females. The age ranged from 10 to 30, and with about 80% between 13 and 23. The severity of the disease process varied. They were given 10 grams of pantothenic acid a day in four divided doses. There is a noticeable decrease in sebum secretion (skin oil) on the face usually 2-3 days after initiation of therapy. The face becomes less oily. After two weeks, existing lesions start to regress while the rate of eruption of new acne lesions begins to slow down. In cases with moderate severity, the condition is normally in complete control in about eight weeks, with most of the lesions gone and new lesions only to erupt occasionally.

Good sources of Vitamin B5 include the organ meats, brewers yeast, egg yolks, fish, chicken, whole grain cereals, cheese, peanuts, dried beans, and a variety of vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, green peas, cauliflower, and avocados. SkinB5s combination of Vitamin B5, Zinc, Vitamin A and Biotin will give you serious results in treating acne and wrinkles./pbr

As those who suffer from acne will tell you, learning to control it can be difficult and frustrating. There are so many components that can be responsible for acne, that determining what contributes to your specific skin condition can be a matter of trial and error for an extended period of time.

Lifestyle changes certainly increase your chances of remaining acne free. Adjustments such as changing skin cleansing regimes, adding topical creams to your repertoire, getting additional sleep, and adopted stress relieving techniques can all go a long way towards increasing the health of your skin.

But no change has more impact on acne – and the reduction of its effects – than adopting a stringent acne diet. What you put in your body makes itself evident on the surface of your skin. If you are currently eating foods high in salt, sugar, grease, and saturated fats, chances are that you are significant adding to your acne through a poor acne diet.

To implement an acne diet that will vastly improve the look and feel of your skin, as well as significantly prevent future breakouts, there are several things to keep in mind.

Commit yourself to avoiding foods high in salt, sugar, grease, and saturated fats as much as possible. Instead, focus your acne diet around whole and natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Fish in particular will give your skin a new level of health.

Not only will eating this way go a long way to increasing the overall health of your body but the change will almost immediately be reflected in your complexion.

Additionally, experts believe that increased dairy consumption can actually add to acne because of the hormones included in its makeup. So if you are suffering from acne, limit your intake of dairy as a part of your acne diet.

Increase your water intake significantly. Nothing does more to cleanse your body – and your skin – than water. Strive for the recommended eight glasses of water daily and you will be surprised at how quickly your skin takes notice.

Experts also report that Vitamin E will often exacerbate acne conditions. Instead, they recommend increasing Vitamin B5 consumption as this has been found to have positive impact in an acne diet. Be very careful when it comes to vitamins of any kind. Taking too much of any one vitamin can be unhealthy and sometimes dangerous. Be sure to check with your doctor before taking specific vitamins.

If after following your acne diet you are still not satisfied with the look and feel of your skin, be sure to visit a professional dermatologist. You may require an elevated level of care to ensure clear and healthy skin. Medical attention combined with a healthy lifestyle and an acne diet will do wonders for the health of your skin.

Author: S. Janice Peel

Signs of Acne Rosacea

Acne vulgaris is the most common form of acne and most often appears with the beginning of puberty. This type of acne is characterized by whiteheads and blackheads. Acne rosacea, on the other hand, usually makes its debut sometime after the age of 30 and before 50. Also, it is confined to the nose, cheeks, chin, forehead and eyelids. Unlike common acne, acne rosacea is not linked to overactive oil glands.

The outbreaks seen in acne rosacea consist of minute dilated blood vessels, papules and pustules. These lesions affect the color of the skin causing it to be bright red. The color may even take on a dull red or sometimes a purplish hue. At first the redness may last for just a few hours, but as the condition progresses and recurrences continue, the color persists and can become permanent.

The over-growth of the sebaceous glands, especially those on the nose, lead to thickening of the skin, and an enlargement of the nose. This bulbous nose, as it is called, is one of the best known looks so often associated with acne rosacea. Although rosacea is most commonly seen in women, men have the most severe cases and are the ones that develop the disfiguring bulbous nose, known as rhinophyma. Odd as it may seem, rhinophyma sometimes is the only sign of the condition.

Rosacea outbreaks are aggravated by different things in different people, and those afflicted with the condition soon realize what causes their inflammations to worsen and avoid those things. Some of the common stimulants are hot beverages, spicy foods and alcohol. Also, exposure to the sun and heat can be aggravating factors.

Acne rosacea is not a life-threatening, but it certainly causes severe alterations in a person’s appearance which can lead to psychosomatic and emotional problems.

There are not many complications associated with acne rosacea. But one is inflammation of the eyelashes or outer surface of the eyes which can result in eye irritations. Also, though rare, the membrane covering the lens (cornea) can become inflamed leading to impaired vision.

How Acne Rosacea Is Treated

Topical and Oral Medication. There is no cure for rosacea since the exact cause of the disease is not known. Successful treatment is based on controlling the acne-like symptoms with the same topical and systemic medications used in treating regular acne.

The most effective treatment includes long term use of topical and oral antibiotics to control the eruptions. Tetracycline seems to be the antibiotic of choice. The dosages are slowly lowered, giving enough just to maintain control. The eventual goal is to be able to discontinue the antibiotic altogether without the rosacea pimples returning. Tetracycline is one of those drugs that should never be taken during pregnancy since it affects the unborn child.

Laser and Surgery. Laser treatment has been successful in eliminating the enlarged facial blood vessels. This is a treatment that causes very little discomfort. Also, surgery can be used to remove the excess tissue associated with rhinophyma.

The psychological and stress problems associated with acne rosacea should never be ignored because they can be very severe. A medical specialist may be required.

Just because you never experienced acne during your youth, doesn’t mean you won’t have to face it as an adult. Research shows one out of four adult men and one out of two adult women will experience some type of acne in their adult life.

No one seems to agree on what causes acne in adults, but one thing is clear. Acne is always associated with hormones. These hormones are essential to the development of the oil glands of your skin. Children don’t experience acne, because their hormones aren’t mature.

Any time your hormones become unbalanced, you run the risk of an acne breakout. Researchers agree that acne is caused by androgens. These are male hormones found in both men and women. These hormones create excess oil. In turn, this excess oil can clog the hair follicles and allow bacteria to grow. When this occurs, acne pimples and blemishes appear.

Women generally experience hormonal acne because of the normal female cycles like menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. This is why some types of birth control pills help control acne by keeping the androgens balanced. However, consult your doctor before considering this treatment. Every one is different. All treatments do not produce the same results for different people.

Many adults have experienced success in clearing their acne by using a simple three-step regimen.

Benzoyl Peroxide Kills Acne Bacteria
First, get a 2.5% solution of benzoyl peroxide. Apply this to a small part on your skin to test your skin’s reaction. Although most people have no problems with benzoyl peroxide, some do. Once you know it’s ok, gently apply this to your affected skin.

Avoid Irritating Your Skin
Always be gentle when working with your skin. Irritation only increases your acne problems. Avoid harsh scrubbing, picking or pinching your pimples, etc. If you skin is already irritated, take a few days and let it settle down.

Use a Gentle Skin Cleanser
Wash your face and acne affected skin with a gentle cleanser. Avoid using regular bath soap or cleansers that overly dry your skin.

Finally, use a gentle moisturizer to keep your skin from drying out and to minimize irritation. With a little consistency and time, many adults can clear their adult acne following this simple treatment.

While acne is not completely understood, there is a substantial knowledge of the biology behind it.
The main cause is an oily substance produced by your body called sebum, whose main function is to help keep your skin and hair lubcricated. During the adolescent years, the body can overproduce sebum which then combines with dead skin cells and clogs pores.
The build-up of oil beneath the skin’s surface in these clogged pores creates an environment where bacteria can thrive. When these bacteria form, the skin become red and inflamed and causes what we call a pimple.
The overproduction of the substance sebum is brought on by testosterone. While this is a male hormone, it is present in both males and females. During puberty, the body starts to react to testosterone differently and this new reaction is what causes the skin to become more oily.
By the early 20′s, most people’s body acclimatizes to the presence of testosterone and the acne problem goes away.
Acne has been shown to be hereditary to a certain degree, but there is no conclusive reason that some people are affected while other aren’t. Some of the contributing factors appear to be stress, diet, skin type, and certain medications.
Some of the medications that often contribute to acne problems are anabolic steroids, halogens, androgens and lithium.
Diet-related factors seem to be primarily related to skim milk based products. While many people associate chocolate and greasy foods with pimples, there is in fact no evidence that they are actually related.
It is tempting to “pop” pimple but this can actually lead to a more severe problem. Squeezing the pimple can cause the bacteria to spread to the surrounding skin, which can lead to more pimples. Plus, squeezing them can lead to scarring of the skin, which in the worst cases may be permanent.
Even the simple – and often unconscious – act of touching your face can be a factor in acne. Our hands contain oils and bacteria that can lead to further problems for people who are suffering with acne.
This extends to anything that comes in contact with the face – telephones, glasses, sunglasses, hats, etc. Anything that could potentially be carrying bacteria could ultimately lead to a more serious acne problem.

Preventing acne in sure and simple way sounds difficult. Try these small steps and see if you get any results.? We have started believing that acne cannot be prevented. But let me tell you something by which you can be pretty sure that you will prevent it to some extent.

Stop using acne-causing cosmetics

Cosmetics are made with many ingredients. Some of them are synthetic chemicals and others are natural products. Some of these products may be comedogenic. A comedogenic product causes comedones when applied on the skin. When any cosmetic that contains s a comedogenic ingredient is used it causes acne cosmetica. Stop use of all such products that are comedogenic. Buy products labeled as non comedogenic.

Remove dead skin cells daily-

Dead skin cells cause a block in the pores and may cause acne. How do we remove the dead cells daily? Use of a substance that peels the skin layers from the top is best suited for this. Use of materials that dissolve the binding cement of dead cells is also needed. Peel off the top layer of dead cells. Dissolve the bond between dead cells and make them lose so that they can be easily washed away. Use of retinoids such as tretinoin and use of AHA such as glycolic acid regularly will do this easily. Please consult your doctor about this and ask for the right product. Once you keep the pores open, you will be effectively stopping acne production.

Control Sebum-

Acne is caused because of sebum. If sebum were not there, acne would not be there. Can i block sebum like we do with sweat? How to I block sebum? Let us answer. Till now nothing has been found to block the sebum production. With aging it reduces, but in young age, you cannot block it with any method. You can remove the excess sebum from your skin with oil absorbent cosmetics and skin care products. Use sebum-removing products and keep sebum under control.
