For those who suffer from acne, the idea of getting rid once and for all, is comparable to winning the lottery. Fortunately for many, there are medications that can and give relief to some. The sad fact is that not everyone will find relief with the same drugs. This means that the path to acne treatment can be long and very personalized. What works for one person does not necessarily work for another. There are, however, a number of different options in the market, some counter and some prescription, which can have great performance for those who suffer from acne. And when these do not work, often over time. The main types of acne medications include: * Adapalene: This usually is prescribed and it comes in gel, liquid or cream. It can be a bit pricy compared to other treatment options, but when it works, works well to control acne. For those seeking this route, the condition can actually worsen during the first days, but if improvements are noted next start shortly thereafter. * Benzoyl peroxide. Perhaps the medicine most common acne, it lies on the counter and by prescription. What differs between the two is the force. This product is well proven to help many acne patients, but may come with a side effect of drying for some. If irritation or drying continues, it is generally recommended drug stopped. If these are not present, but things are not going away or showing better control, a higher dose might be in order. * Antibiotics. Drugs such as erythromycin, are commonly prescribed to treat acne. Their effectiveness varies, but for those who work, the reports are brilliant. Remember, however, it is important to take antibiotics correctly. * Accutane. This is considered very effective in treating severe acne in many patients. It is a very serious drug, however, and should only be taken on medical advice and under close supervision. No one wants to deal with acne, but unfortunately is a fact of life for many. There are many different treatment options available for dealing with the condition and want to "make everything go." The efficacy of treatments varies from person to person and some trial and error may be necessary to find the right product for your application.
