Several clinical studies report that zinc is only slightly less effective than antibiotics in controlling acne (although antibiotics by themselves seldom are adequate treatment). The key to using zinc effectively is buying the right kind of zinc. Researchers using an effervescent (fizzy) form of zinc sulfate found it to be about as effective as the antibiotic tetracycline. Researchers using a plain form of zinc sulfate found that it appeared to have a somewhat beneficial effect on pustules but not on blackheads, white heads, nodules, or cysts.

The most recent clinical study found that acne patients given a moderate dose of zinc gluconate (30 mg) per day were about half as likely to be completely cured after 90 days as those given the minocycline. Among patients who did not achieve total remission, however, zinc treatment eliminated over 90 percent as many lesions as treatment with the antibiotic after 30 days and over 80 percent as many lesions as the antibiotic after 90 days.

The bottom line of these studies is, if you have acne, take zinc and be prepared to wait a couple of months for results. The best-absorbed form of zinc is zinc picolinate. Do not take more than 50 mg of any zinc supplement daily. In rare cases, excessive intake of zinc depletes copper to cause anemia, that is, a deficiency of red blood cells, and neutropenia, a serious deficiency of white blood cells. If you take tetracycline antibiotics for skin infections, chances are you are deficient in zinc. Taking tetracycline interferes with the body’s absorption of zinc (and taking zinc interferes with the body’s absorption of tetracycline).

One other supplement is helpful if you exercise and you have acne. Aerobic exercise helps acne by increasing circulation to the skin, but anaerobic exercise (huffing and puffing to the point of exhaustion) without antioxidant supplementation may aggravate acne. Strenuous exercise depletes glutathione. This naturally occurring antioxidant slows inflammatory reactions and is essential to the normal function of estrogen and testosterone. Laboratory studies with animals have found that supplementation with alpha-lipoic acid keeps glutathione from breaking down, especially in the liver and in the bloodstream.

To suffer from acne? This affliction can be a rather tumultuous one if you dont seek to proper treatment. The way we look, as we all know, has a huge effect on our confidence, or lack there of. So how does your complexion look? You are certainly not alone can happen to have acne, but it isnt the end of the world by any means either. Its time to stand up straight and tall, and take control of your life. With the numerous resources at our beck and call, theres absolutely no reason why we cant push to be acne free. While proper skin care and reliable treatments are essential in eradicating blemishes, a great many individuals overlook the other things. Its not just about whats on an outside ladies and gentlemen. We have to consider what goes on inside us as well. What were talking about here are acne diets. What are you eating?

You may not even be familiar with the subject of acne diets, it isnt talked about too much. This pertains to what you consume and how it affects your skin. I remember couple years ago sitting in the doctors office in with my lovely wife is there because she was heading back pain. I had really chapped lips at the time and asked her if she had any Chapstick in her purse. This caught the doctors attention when she looked at me and said, You know, the condition of your lips actually relates to your diet. Huh? She told me that eating the right nutrients and drinking the right fluids on a regular basis would fully heal my left and and keep them from becoming chapped. This astounded me.

However, since then I have started to heat and more healthy they can guess what… I rarely have chapped lips anymore. Its bizarre how some things work. I guess those doctors to actually know what theyre talking about. Anyhow, this premise also applies to our skin. Did you know that the food you eat excretes back through your pores? Sounds weird doesnt? Well, certain substances from the foods do actually make their way out of our pores. This gives whole new meaning to the phrase, you are what you eat. This is precisely why acne diets are so vitally important for some individuals. Foods high in fat and grease have been proven to cause blemishes. Im talking about fast foods, specifically.

When it comes to acne diets, foods that are great for your skin include, fruits and vegetables, organic products, non-processed items, and of course water, drink lots of water. I highly recommend that you give acne diets a chance if blemishes are haunting you. You should definitely improve your complexion if you give it a fair shot. For more information on acne diets, jump on the Internet where theres more information than you can handle.br
br
The latest research has shown that stress not only affects your weight and heart but stress can do a number on your skin, too! Thats right. Stress can actually cause rashes, acne and many other blemishes as well.

When you feel stress, your body level of cortisol (stress hormone) rises, this in turn can raise your blood sugar. Higher blood sugar levels are, in turn, correlated with increased skin aging. It is believed that, the next step leads to sugar molecules attacking your skins collagen and elastin. Acne and other skin blemishes result from high blood sugar levels. Of course, your levels of epinephrine soar when youre in stressful situations. That particular hormone is associated with decreased blood flow to the skin, which can make your complexion appear dull and give you dark circles under the eyes. Also, the skin barrier is compromised due to stress and in turn leads to decreased protection from harmful outside irritants which help hold moisture in your skin. This can eventually lead to allergic reactions, rashes, acne and other blemishes.

What Can Be Done?

In graduate school we often discussed ways in which to decrease stress. Many of the answers that came out of our class have stuck with me and perhaps they can be of assistance to you to:

Get plenty of sleep. The average adult should get between seven and eight hours of sleep a night.

Eat a well balanced diet. Try to incorporate all of the important nutrients and vitamins into you schedule. Perhaps the best plan is to eat light periodic meals, every two to three hours is a good start. You may also consider going on a low fat diet.

Pray/Meditate. Take care of yourself spiritually. Do the things that you need to in order to nurture the whole self.

Exercise. A good thirty minute brisk walk will do it. Remember not to think about stressful events while you are exercising otherwise this will defeat the purpose. It is also important to remember to burn fat while exercising.

In closing, let me remind you that you are the only one in control of your stress levels. Sure, there are many external forces vying for you time and talents but ultimately only one person can choose to deal with the pressures of life in a healthy manner. That is you. My hope is that you feel less stress as a result of reading this blog not more, hope it worked. Good Luck.br
br
Several years ago, I sat on the sidelines and watched other women light up rooms. They werent stunning in the way that women are supposed to be, but they had this beauty about them that I just couldnt pinpoint. All I knew was that I was lacking in it. It was body confidence, I later found out — a confidence I embrace today, knowing full well how long it took me to find.
When I was 13 years old, something as minor as a pimple could leave me moping for hours. I wore heavy makeup to conceal my acne — so much so that I could spend an hour in the bathroom before school to make sure every blotch on my face was hidden. Friends at school called me zit face to be cruel; I tried to ignore them, but I knew it was true. When I looked in the mirror, I saw a pale comparison of the girl I used to be.
That year, our school took a three-day field trip to Washington D.C., where we stayed at a hotel with a swimming pool. I wasnt embarrassed to be seen in a swimsuit, but I always wore a t-shirt to hide the acne that scattered my arms and back. As my right foot skimmed the cool water, the lifeguard yelled, Sorry, its against hotel policy to wear t-shirts in the pool. I watched my friends splash around, confident with their flawless skin and knew I could never expose myself. I faked a stomachache and bolted for the privacy of my hotel bathroom. Outraged, I peeled off my t-shirt to unmask scabbed, irritated skin. I cursed the imperfect reflection in the bathroom mirror. I screamed, I HATE you! Youre SO ugly!
By the time I turned 15, the acne had vanished thanks to medication. Eventually, the scars faded to the background. When I looked in the mirror, I saw a face that was pretty again, but a body that was all wrong. I discovered in a dressing room that at 130 pounds, I was too fat for my 52 body.
Im hideous! I moaned to my mother, creaking the dressing room door open so she could see my fat thighs in the sparkly black mini. Sigh.
No youre not, she reassured, smiling sadly. She suggested that exercise might make me feel better.
I bought exercise videos and gave up ice cream and chocolate, those sinful foods women arent supposed to eat. In the high school cafeteria, I ate dry turkey subs (the cafeteria didnt offer low-fat mayo packets), skim milk, and cups of pineapples. My taller and thinner girlfriend enjoyed chocolate milk, fries, and Doritos. She also went to bed at night with her makeup on and never saw a pimple in her life. Talk about fairness.
By age 20, I maintained a stable weight of 120 pounds and accepted my short legs. I then obsessed about my too-small chest! At a small 34B, I felt my body would be better if only my breasts were larger like women on magazine covers and on television. Id never been a sucker for gimmicks, never chanted, I must, I must, I must increase my bust while squeezing my pecks but an obsession had taken hold.
I bought padded bras, gel-filled inserts, and pills promising to increase bust-size (they didnt). I contemplated breast augmentation. Small breasts signified something was missing — a scaled down version of femininity, I was sure.
Then in college, I devoured books about Americas obsessive quest for physical beauty and how impossible standards hurt women and girls. Something as insignificant as a mirror holds the power to control our self-image. A piece of glass can determine how we feel about ourselves. I had enough. FINALLY.
I stood before my bedroom mirror, stripped of clothing, exposed to myself. I studied my body slowly, trying to see beyond the pain and insecurity to find what remained — just me.
I saw my fathers deep brown eyes, my mothers thick brown hair, and full lips that reveal a fantastic smile when Im happy enough to show it off. I saw thin, shapely arms sprinkled with nineteen beauty marks, a flat stomach, and small breasts proportional to my body. I turned around. Sure, my behind was a teensy bit bigger than I would have liked, but it certainly wasnt anything to be ashamed of. My legs were short, but I liked how toned they looked. They were petite and curvy. At that moment, I finally just saw me. Perhaps for the first time in my life, I accepted myself as a beautifully flawed woman.
When I was a teenager, one of my best friends had a beautiful dancers body. She flaunted long graceful legs, small hips, and a flat bottom — everything I had always wanted. Imagine my surprise when she confided that she was jealous of me!
Are you SERIOUS? I gasped, inspecting myself in her dresser mirror. Youre tall and can eat anything you want and never gain a pound. Your legs are so thin.
But youre curvy, she responded. Guys look at you. A single tear glided down her left cheek as she pulled her long legs close to her chest. She grabbed her favorite teddy bear from her bed and ran her fingers through its soft white fur, careful to avert my gaze. I didnt have the courage to tell her the truth, so I let the silence hang between us until she changed the subject. We eventually drifted apart.
I should have told her, Imagine how amazing we both could feel if we saw in ourselves what others have seen all along. My younger self never did, and my older self wishes I would have.
At age 27, I find loving my body means accepting that it will NEVER be perfect. No matter how much I work out, I accept that my behind will never look flawless, like bronzed goddesses on television. Ill never look like a supermodel, but I dont care. Im real and when I brush past a mirror, Im finally comfortable with everything I see. Thankfully, my surrendered battle with the mirror empowers me to focus on more important aspects of my life ?
Like realizing my dreams.
br
Isotretinoin is considered to be most effective medicine for severe acne and other acne that does not respond to common acne medication. It is available in form of capsules to be taken orally and the trade name of Isotretinoin in the USA is Accutane. Isotretinoin is a retinoid. Retinoids are derived from Vitamin A. Isotretinoin is chemically known as 13-cis retinoic acid. Isotretinoin is a drug of choice for acne patients who may have lost hope about cure of their acne.

Isotretinoin is generally prescribed for 16 to 20 weeks and the end of the prescription sees considerable inmprovement in most of the patients. Isotretinoin may cause many side effects and should be strictly taken under medical supervision. It can cause birth defects in fetus. Therefore women should take precaution of not getting pregnant while taking Isotretinoin. Isotretinoin may also be used for some other conditions that include- folliculitis, seborrhoea, chloracne and other diseases that look like acne.

Usage-

Nodular acne that does not get treated with other medications is treated with Isotretinoin. Any other acne that does not respond to medication is also treated with Isotretinoin. The rate of success with Isotretinoin is very high. In the beginning some people see deterioration in their acne but that slowly disappears. Isotretinoin is commonly prescribed for 16 to 20 weeks and if needed it is repeated after a gap of eight weeks.

It is believed that Isotretinoin works by shrinking the sebaceous glands and reducing sebum production. Isotretinoin is an anti-inflammatory medicine and shrinks the acne by reducing sebum substantially.

The strength of dosage of isotretinoin depends upon the severity of acne, body weight, other treatments being used at the same time etc. Your doctor is the best person to decide about the dose. Normally the treatment begins with small dose and as body adjusts to isotretinoin the dose is increased. Doctors also monitor the cure during this period and if they find that patient is not responding, they may stop the therapy. As isotretinoin needs fat to help its absorption in body, it is taken after food. Follow your doctors advice about these.

Side Effects

The common side-effects of isotretinoin are dry mouth, dry nose, thinning of hair, fatigue, dry skin, red itchy eyes, sore lips, etc. If you experience any other side effects such as muscle aches, difficulty in walking, depression, vomiting, etc. Talk to your doctor immediately. Discuss about side effects with your doctor before beginning of the treatment with isotretinoin and report any expected or unexpected side effect immediately. Note that you may not be able to wear your contact lenses for some time in the beginning of treatment with isotretinoin. You should not donate any blood while you are taking isotretinoin and for one month after you stop taking it. Please talk about dos and dont with your doctor. You also must inform your doctor about any medicine or vitamins you are taking.

Isotretinoin and Pregnancy-

Isotretinoin can cause serious defects in the fetus. Therefore you should inform your doctor if you are pregnant. You should also tell your doctor if you plan to become pregnant or are already breast-feeding. You will have to test yourself for pregnancy before you begin isotretinoin and continue getting tested while taking Isotretinoin. Your doctor will explain the details to you. If you get pregnant while taking isotretinoin you should stop taking it and call your doctor immediately. You must adopt two reliable methods of birth control for one month before taking isotretinoin, continue with two methods while taking isotretinoin and till after one month of stopping isotretinoin. You should talk to your gynaecologist and dermatologist in detail before taking isotretinoin.

To eliminate or clear your face of acne it will require you take a variety of health steps. The use of essential fatty acids is but one step. I have identified 10 different steps but will only discuss one step in this article – using essential fatty acids.

Getting sufficient essential fatty acids is of prime importance in clearing acne. Its these fatty acids that help to control the production of excess androgens – the hormones that surge during the teen-age times It is androgens, which causes excess sebum oil to clog your hair follicle and contribute to creating your acne.

The three fatty acids you need to get daily are:
? omega-3
? omega-6
? omega-9

When you are deficient in these essential fatty acids, you will have,

? A weaken immune system
? Inflammatory disorders
? Poor skin
? Skin eruptions and other wounds that wont heal
? Sebum production increases (this is what happens when you have acne)
? Sebaceous glands size increases

Eating essential fatty acids are necessary to provide you the right oils that are used in the sebaceous glands. These oils can come from straight vegetable oils or from oils in specific foods such as nuts and seeds.

Heres what you need to do. Use flax seed oil (omega-3 oil) and olive oil (omega-6 oil) in your salad. These are the best oils to eat and are called polyunsaturated fatty acids.

The other oil that is even better for you is called monounsaturated fatty acid or omega-9. This oil is found in avocados and somewhat in olive oil.

Most diets people have contain an excess of omega-6 oil (olive oil), so mostly likely you need to concentrate on getting more omega-3 oil (flax seed oil) into your diet.

You can get omega-3 oil from,

? avocados
? sesame seeds
? pumpkin seeds
? walnuts
? dark leafy green vegetables (spinach, mustard greens, kale)
? wheat germ oil
? salmon
? sardines
? albacore tuna

Or, you can take one to two tablespoon of flax seed oil, omega-3 oil, each day. This will give you the amount of omega-3 oil that your body needs. You can add this oil to your morning cereal, soups, smoothies, salads and other liquid foods.

You can get omega-6 oil from,

? olive oil
? flaxseed oil
? flaxseeds
? grape seed oil
? pistachio nuts
? olives
? sunflower seeds
? chicken
? evening primrose oil
? pumpkin seeds
? pine nuts

Taking 2-3 tablespoons of omega-6 oil a day will give you the amount of this oil that you body needs.

So, to control those androgens and help your body reduce the creations of acne or pimples start using more essential fatty acids.br
Acne is not for your face only. Acne can also occur on your shoulders, chest and back. The most common area for acne is your face, but your back may also experience acne flare-ups. Back acne is a condition that can affect both teens and adults. Understanding what causes acne is the first step toward prevention and treatment. Your face, neck, shoulders, chest, and back are covered with tiny hairs that are not usually noticeable to you. Each hair has a hair follicle with oil glands surrounding the base of the follicle. When the oil glands produce more oil than the hair follicles can absorb, the follicle will get blocked. A blocked hair follicle can turn into acne as a whitehead, blackhead, papules, or pustules. You may be experiencing back acne because of the way you treat your back. Hair follicles can become blocked if they are stuck together and under pressure. The oil cant flow through the follicle and acne may flare-up. Since your skin on your back is tougher than your face and harder to see and reach, back acne is more difficult to treat. This requires a different treatment method than you would use on your face. Click for All Natural Cure For Stopping Acne In 3 Days! If you suffer from back acne, think about what your back goes through. Pay attention for a week to the type of clothes you wear, and your routine. You may be able to determine what is causing your back acne. What type of clothes do you wear? Rough clothing scrubs your skin constantly. Tight clothing will also create constant rubbing against the skin. This constant scrubbing and rubbing causes the hairs to stick together and ultimately the hair follicles will get blocked. Cotton fabric is your best friend when you are dealing with acne. It is light and breaths. What does your routine look like? Does your occupation cause constant pressure against your back? When your back is constantly in motion against a seat the hair follicles could get stuck together and cause your acne to flare-up. Do you wear a backpack everyday or a good part of the week? Backpacks cause pressure and friction on your back. If so, try switching to a shoulder bag or a bag with handles. How do you clean your back? Anything that has a scrubbing action against your back is causing the hair follicles to become blocked. Even using a back scrubber in the shower could irritate and cause acne flare-ups. Click for All Natural Cure For Stopping Acne In 3 Days! As innocent as all of these actions are, they are causing havoc on your back. Remember, scrubbing and rubbing can cause the hairs on your back to get stuck together. Once they are stuck the oil cant flow through. Acne loves a blocked hair follicle. Keep your back clean. Perspiration will cause the bacteria and oil to irritate your acne. Look for over-the-counter acne treatment products that contain salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. These products can help keep your pores clear. Since the skin on your back is a little tougher than your face, you want to look for extra strength products to use on your back. Know your skin type and treat your back accordingly. Gently cleanse your back twice daily, more often when in situations that cause you to perspire. Use a gentle cleanser and a topical treatment. When over-the-counter products dont work, you may need to find a good dermatologist for treatment. Get control over your back and say Goodbye to back acne. Are you finding it difficult to control your acne? Just how can you make those spots disappear? What makes them appear in the first place? We take a look at what causes your acne and how you may be able to prevent it.

Acne is usually formed around the tiny hair follicles that are on your face. Dead cells can block up these follicles and this can all lead to bacteria feeding on these dead cells and multiplying. This will cause that tiny hair follicle to start swelling and then infection will begin to spring forth. This will soon lead to that small red spot we dread seeing in the mirror!

Unfortunately, this process happens deep down inside your hair follicle, so if you see a surface acne treatment, then it can only do so much to help you! Actually, there are some acne remedies that employ rough chemicals or even abrasives. This can actually lead to your acne getting worse under such treatments.

So what can kindle acne to start producing? Well, there are periods in our lives that can incite acne, usually when our hormones are in overdrive. For the males, most problems will occur around puberty and then things should start easing up. As for the ladies, they can also have problems around puberty, but unfortunately for the girls, they can also experience problems with zits during menstruation and also pregnancy.

Extreme stress could initiate acne as well; your blood pressure will increase as will the oil that your face produces, so if youre getting ready for an exam, dont be surprised to see one or two spots appearing. New studies show that non-organic milk products could lead to your growth hormones soaring, this could cause acne. It may well be that a food allergy could be the cause of your problem, if you have any reason to think a particular food may be causing your problems with acne, then simply cut it out for a few weeks and see if theres any improvement.

Acne is always going to a predicament for many throughout puberty. However, look to get yourself on a quality acne treatment system, try and steer clear of refined sugars when you can. If none of the advice within this article is helping to clear up your acne, then its probably time to get some help from a dermatologist!/pbr
