Are you finding it difficult to control your acne? Just how can you make those spots disappear? What makes them appear in the first place? We take a look at what causes your acne and how you may be able to prevent it.

Acne is usually formed around the tiny hair follicles that are on your face. Dead cells can block up these follicles and this can all lead to bacteria feeding on these dead cells and multiplying. This will cause that tiny hair follicle to start swelling and then infection will begin to spring forth. This will soon lead to that small red spot we dread seeing in the mirror!

Unfortunately, this process happens deep down inside your hair follicle, so if you see a surface acne treatment, then it can only do so much to help you! Actually, there are some acne remedies that employ rough chemicals or even abrasives. This can actually lead to your acne getting worse under such treatments.

So what can kindle acne to start producing? Well, there are periods in our lives that can incite acne, usually when our hormones are in overdrive. For the males, most problems will occur around puberty and then things should start easing up. As for the ladies, they can also have problems around puberty, but unfortunately for the girls, they can also experience problems with zits during menstruation and also pregnancy.

Extreme stress could initiate acne as well; your blood pressure will increase as will the oil that your face produces, so if youre getting ready for an exam, dont be surprised to see one or two spots appearing. New studies show that non-organic milk products could lead to your growth hormones soaring, this could cause acne. It may well be that a food allergy could be the cause of your problem, if you have any reason to think a particular food may be causing your problems with acne, then simply cut it out for a few weeks and see if theres any improvement.

Acne is always going to a predicament for many throughout puberty. However, look to get yourself on a quality acne treatment system, try and steer clear of refined sugars when you can. If none of the advice within this article is helping to clear up your acne, then its probably time to get some help from a dermatologist!/pbr
Acne control is a struggle for many teens. This disorder comes about when the sebaceous glands, or oil glands, become overactive and produce excess oil. As a result, the pores in the skin become clogged. Acne control can be most difficult when dealing with the face, shoulders, chest, and back because these areas contain most of the oil glands.
There are many forms of acne control. Many are in the form of acne medications. Fortunately, there are several less expensive forms of acne control as well.
First, individuals needing acne control should eat healthier. Fruits and vegetables are a necessary part of a balanced diet and assist the body in acne control. Along with eating healthy foods, people also should drink lots of water to promote acne control. Doing so flushes the system and keeps the skin hydrated.
Next, taking multivitamins can assist in acne control. Multivitamins contain zinc which aids the body in acne control as well. Next, minimizing the use of makeup is another form of acne control. Wearing too much makeup can clog the pores, so limiting the use makeup can prevent outbreaks.
Another form of acne control is to use rose water to cleanse the face. People also can use a cucumber mask in order to rid the pores of excess oil. Instead of spending money on acne products these natural remedies can be just as effective for acne control.
All of these tips can be effective forms of acne control. Although they do work for some, they may not work for everyone. Before you spend hundreds of dollars on acne medications, take a trip to your local grocery store- the natural remedies you find can be your answer for acne control.
br
The use of birth control pills to control acne flare ups may or may not be an effective.
Usually, the first signs of acne develop during adolescence, when hormone levels begin to rise. When hormone levels surge, the sebaceous glands located at the base of each hair follicle, produce excess oil. This oil combined with dead skin cells and dirt becomes trapped within the skins pores and acne develops.
Since acne can be triggered by fluctuating hormone levels within the body, it stands to reason that acne can appear at the various stages in life when hormone levels are changing such as puberty, pregnancy and menopause. It also makes sense that controlling hormone levels may help to reduce acne outbreaks.
The use of birth control pills for the treatment of acne is an attempt to regulate hormones. It is important to understand that every human body contains both male and female hormones. Overactive sebaceous glands are the result of rising levels of the male hormones – testosterone and androgens. Birth control pills contain artificial female hormones – estrogen and/or progestin. The theory is that birth control pills shut down the ovaries which are producing inappropriate male hormones allowing a more balanced male/female hormone mixture.
There are problems with using birth control pills to control acne. Some women may actually notice their acne worsen with the use of birth control pills until the estrogen levels become dominant.
Women who do take the birth control pill and who notice that their acne is getting worse should discuss the situation with their doctor. Different brands of oral contraception have different levels of hormones. Switching to another brand may bring acne back under control. There are several brands that may help clear up acne but only Ortho Tri-cyclen has been approved by the FDA for treating acne.
Keep in mind that using birth control pills for acne control is only a temporary solution. Many women find that once they stop using birth control pills, their acne returns – often worse than before.
Birth control pills can have undesirable side effects including nausea, weight gain, water retention and mood swings. There are also other more serious health risks than acne to consider. Prolonged use may increase your chances of heart attack or stroke.
It is for these reasons that using birth control pills for acne control should be considered only after all other treatment options have failed and always with the guidance of your physician.

One usually achieves acne control by the constant use of cosmetic or pharmaceutical products with a topical anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Herbal extracts, salicylic acid, bezoyl peroxide are just a few examples of common anti-acne products, yet such treatments give adverse reactions too. They can be very irritant with a potentially damaging effect on the healthy skin. It is therefore wiser to choose a gradual acne control method as a means of preventing further tissue damage.

Tretinoin is a product praised for good results in the acne control. It acts by the peeling of the superficial skin layer and causes a pores de-congestion. The problem with tretinoin is that it actually makes acne worse at first before coming to clear it. Among the side effects of the treatment we can count skin scaling, stinging, swelling or flushing. You can choose from gels, facial lotions, creams and foams that contain tretinoin, but remember to administrate them carefully.

Adapalene represents another acne control treatment form that is available prescription-based. The big merit of this medication is that it keeps the pores free of toxins, but it is accompanied by adverse reactions like skin swelling, irritation, local dryness and itching. It is an absolute must to remain under professional observation during the use of this acne-control product, particularly when you have to take antibiotics too as a complementary form of support.

Cosmetic treatments deserve credit for solving lots of skin problems and helping one develop acne control. The only difficulty with cosmetic itesm is that they can aggravate or camouflage acute acne outbreaks doing more damage than good to the skin. Thus, it is important to avoid all products that contain oil, stearic acid, lanolin or petrolatum since these will actually clog the pores and create the right environment for the development of acne. Alcohol is preferable to oil, but the highest quality is attributed to water-based cosmetics.

Acne control brought by wonder products is often hard to believe, and it’s wise to remember that prevention works miracles for the skin look. Proper information on how to care for zits so that skin healing can be complete and without scars is of paramount importance. Also pay attention to the diet rules related to skin health: you’ll be surprised to see that the low quality food you may be eating is causing lots of skin troubles afterwards.

If you have been lounging in the comfort zone throughout your preteens with a perfect and gentle skin, you may be up for a change now. With the onset of teens, both boys and girls experience the showdown of hyper hormone levels on their skin, as whiteheads, blackheads and pimples start appearing on the face and neck. For most, the skin problems start to recede towards the end of teen years, becoming completely benign in the next few years. But all through this time, you need to keep your cool in your acne control.

The acne will start to fade as you grow older and your hormone levels stabilize. The most basic cause of acne is attributed to the rising testosterone levels that accompany adolescence. This leads to increased oil production by the skin glands, leading to accumulation and blockages. Acne problems stem from normal physiological causes rather than any disease; treat it as a part of you. That said however, make sure you properly care for your skin, as not doing so will definitely aggravate acne.

The skin care regimen should stick with your for the rest of your life, regardless of your skin type or gender. With so many pollutants, free radicals and irritants floating around in the air, you need to nourish your skin extra deep to keep it protected. Your need to regularly cleanse it with a mild face wash, keep it moisturized and protect it from irritants or conditions that lead to rashes/reactions. Such a regimen that takes into account your skin preferences will go a long way in keeping your skin problem free and beautiful, despite the rising hormone levels causing acne. So next time you look into your mirror for a pimple, you should be more worried about the cleansing and moisturizing right.

If you scratch, fidget or vex your problematic skin areas, they are bound to get worse. The reason such areas become fidgety is because they contain substances irritating to the nerve endings. By fidgeting more, you only worsen the case by damaging more skin cells and attracting more irritating substances. It is best to leave the area on its own to heal, cleanse it softly and moisturize adequately.

If you think you are developing some serious acne problems, your treatment starts at your home. The very simple treatments include using products formulated for acne control, containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. These substances soothe skin irritation while skin cleansers clear accumulated oil and cell debris. Special soaps and creams are sold under different brand names, and though no particular one can be said to work for everybody, you can get them without prescription and use them. Only after eight weeks of intensive care at home will a dermatologist prescribe anything stronger, which can include antibiotic, isotretinoin and azelaic acid. All these medications are not without their own side effects.

And finally, you need to not freak out because the other aspects of your life deserve the better of you. Teenage is the time to build relationships, experience adulthood and pursue personal development. Do not let acne impede your adolescence and use vitamin b5 acne pills to avoid it. For further information, please read our detailed Vitamins for Acne guide.

How does acne control work? Acne is one of the most widespread skin problems in the United States. Some reasons listed for acne are hormonal imbalances, stress, genetics, diets high in fat and the intake of certain medications.

For a person who is suffering from this skin problem, learning more about acne control is important since acne can leave scars if not treated.

There are several over the counter medications and treatments for acne control available in any drugstore. When using these you want to stick to the directions given and not deviate from them. You want to clean your skin regularly with a mild cleanser or soap specially formulated for acne control. When using skin cleanser, never use any of them that contain alcohol. Do not use any oily cosmetics. Use only non-cosmogenic skin care products.

There is more than one method recommended for acne control. And there are no doubt some of them that are more effective than others. Everybody is different, so acne control that works for one person may be almost ineffective on another. You need to find the one that is right for you and your particular skin tones and composition.

It is estimated that 90% of people who have acne respond to some kind of treatment.
Here are just a few tips that have been recommended for acne control:

Moderate exposure to the sun.

Washing your face and acne-affected areas twice daily.

Avoid eating spicy and greasy foods.

Keep your hair clean and away fro your face.

Do not try to touch or pick at your blemishes.

Use OTC (Over The Counter) products which contain sulfur.

If you are pregnant, consult a doctor before you take any over the counter
medications.

Some people have also resorted to alternative methods for acne control, like using a steam bath two times a week for deep cleansing your skin. Special herbs used with your steam bath can help in healing your ailing skin. If this works for you, it may be well worth the investment. Check pricing at your local spa or health club.

Some have looked into getting help when visiting a herbalist. Using natural remedies for acne has been going on for centuries, and many of them are surprisingly effective.

A combination of all of these methods is one of the most effective ways to control acne.

For a more severe case of acne, you may need to go to a dermatologist and take some prescription medicines. Keep in mind that any medicine taken orally has some side effects. Always read up on the possible side effects of your prescription medicine for acne control. Most doctors will prescribe some antibiotic. The most common antibiotic to help with acne control is tetracycline. Most of the topical treatments have ingredients like zinc.

As with any medicine or topical treatment, you need to read the instructions and then follow them closely to be truly effective in acne control. The prescription medications help acne control in two ways: (1) they get rid of the bacteria that can cause acne and (2) they help to reduce the inflammation.

Antibiotics for acne control have to be taken over a longer period of time to prevent a re-ocurrence. Retinoid is a topical treatment and has helped some in effective acne control.

When searching for a solution to your acne problem, you will find many different approaches on how to control acne. You do want to look for a long term approach. Often a combination of methods to control acne is the most effective way. You may be needing prescription medications if your condition is severe. However, this should be your last resort, since herbal remedies and over the counter medications can resolve the vast majority of acne problems.

There are many allegations as to the causes of acne. As technology and science help us find the actual roots, we are able to dispel many of the misconceptions surrounding acne. However, the myths still persist. Here are some more commonly known myths:

Myth: Acne is caused by poor hygiene.
Lack of cleanliness is not the reason for acne. There are skin infections associated with acne due to a mixture of sebum and dead cells that lie beneath the surface of the skin. Although gentle cleansing of the skin with soap and water once or twice a day will assist in keeping skin as healthy as possible, it is ineffective in clearing away the skin infections. Take care not to scrub too hard as this could further aggravate acne.

Myth: Grease and Chocolate will cause acne.
People have believed for years that eating chocolate will cause pimples. There is no scientific proof for this – studies have shown no direct relationship between consuming chocolate and acne breakouts. This is also true of other foods like potato chips and French fries. Eating too much of these types of food is, however, unhealthy, and advisable to eat in moderation.

Note: Although chocolate and greasy foods do not cause acne, some foods DO seem to exacerbate it. Milk and foods high in iodine (as found in seafood) seem to aggravate acne.

Myth: Sex is directly linked to acne.
Everything from masturbation to celibacy has been blamed for acne. This again is false. Although there is a link between hormone levels and sexual activity, it is unclear what the link between sex and levels of sebum (causing acne.) Emotions and stress also affect hormone levels.

Myth: You will grow out of acne.
Acne may last a matter of weeks or as long as several years. There is no need to try to live with it when there are so many over-the-counter treatments available to anyone suffering from the discomfort and embarrassment of acne. Dermatologists are also easily accessible for more severe cases.

Myth: Acne only affects teenagers.
Although 85% of adolescents experience acne, adults are susceptible to suffering from acne when they are in their 30s or 40s.

Myth: Acne is only a superficial condition.
Due to the severity of physical disfigurement acne leads to psychological stress. There are strong links to depression, social withdrawal and low self-esteem.

Myth: Popping/Squeezing pimples will get rid of them faster.
This may actually aggravate acne by spreading the bacteria which is causing it! Squeezing pimples can also lead to permanent scarring.

Myth: Sun exposure will help clear up acne.
Although short-term effects of the sun seem to dry out excess oils, the skin quickly adapts to sun exposure. This eliminates long-term benefits from sun exposure and increases the potential for skin damage and cancer.

Myth: Wearing makeup causes acne.
Healthy skin is the best way to avoid acne. Because some makeups can clog pores, acne can in fact result. Cosmetics have flooded the market with labels indicating they are noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic, which means they will not cause acne. These brands of makeup are safe to use. Some actually include ingredients that help treat acne.

Myth: Using more acne medication will treat the condition quicker.
Excess use of ointments may actually irritate the skin, worsening the condition. Oral medications can be dangerous to your overall health. Always use medications as directed.

Acne is in most cases a fairly mild disorder, it is still highly recommended that you consult a physician
before attempting to treat it your self. There are many over the counter options for treating acne, most of which can be effective to at least some degree. It is tempting to just run down the corner store and purchase something based on the recommendation of a friend or a successful marketing campaign. You would be wiser thought to consult a Doctor, as they can advise you on the most effective type of treatment for your particular case of acne. There are a very large number of products available to treat acne at the current time. You can always take the advise of a friend that has used a particular product but you have to keep in mind that not all people react to medications the same and not all cases of acne are the same. There could be some significant differences between your acne and your friends. You will be better able to select the proper treatment for your situation if you have a basic knowledge of the active ingredients in the various acne medications.

Benzoyl peroxide is one of the more popular active ingredients found in current acne treatments. It can be found in gels and creams and fights acne with a dual action. First it helps treat the bacteria on the surface of the skin that actually causes pimples. Secondly it helps to remove the dead skin cells and oils from the surface of your skin. When sebum combines with these dead skin cells it blocks the pores and causes black heads and white heads.
Benzoyl peroxide has been determined to be safe in directly treating existing lesions. On clear
skin it can be used as a preventative treatment, this will help keep the acne causing bacteria from developing on the skin. The only side effect is a tendency to cause dry skin which can be controlled by
reducing the applications. Care should also be taken because it will bleach out hair and clothes.

Salicylic acid is another common ingredient in acne treatments. It works by removing the dead skin cells that accumulate and block the skin pores. Salicylic acid products need to be used even when the skin is clear to keep the acne from re-occurring. The only reported side affect is drying and irritation of the skin in some people.

The two other most common ingredients are sulfur and resorcinol. Resorcinol works by removing the entire top layer of skin which also effectively removes the dead skin cells before they can clog pores. Sulfur has been used to treat acne for over fifty years with significant success despite the fact that it is not known how it actually helps. Sulfur is frequently mixed with other treatments to help them be more effective but is not normally used on it’s own because of the unpleasant odor.

Benzoyl peroxide is probably the most versatile of the above ingredients. It can safely be used in creams, lotions, gels and soaps. These products should be used several times a day directly on the pimples as well as the skin around them.
